The Empty Landscape
The Empty Landscape is a printed poster that combines modern graphic design with traditional Chinese landscape painting. The poster measures 70 by 100 centimeters. The composition draws on the use of blank space in classical Chinese painting. Transparent layers and mosaic-like bitmap graphics create a comparable sense of emptiness and atmosphere. The flat visual language of contemporary design is mixed with the older tradition. The poster was developed in Beijing and explores the artistic mood of Chinese landscape painting through digital means.
The Empty Landscape Poster by Wang Pu was highlighted as an exceptional illustration of communication design by the A' Design Awards. The Empty Landscape Poster was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design in 2021. The A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design accolade which recognizes outstanding design of logos, posters, infographics, brochures, packaging designs, business cards, book covers, billboards and more.
